4 Tips for Take Your Child to Work Day

Did you know that Take Your Child to Work Day is only a week away? This occasion can be a great time for company bonding, and can provide educational opportunities for your employees’ children. Your staff will appreciate the chance to spend extra time with their kids, and it can be a fun day for your entire company!

If you’re planning on welcoming your employee’s kids into your business establishment, here are a few simple tips that you can follow to ensure that it’s a successful day for everyone involved.

1. Ask for Input from Your Employees

Prior to making your Take Your Child to Work Day plans, send out an email asking your staff for suggestions on activities, food, and other pertinent details. This email should also include a survey to determine how many people will be bringing their kids to work, how old each child is, and what their interests are. This information will help you determine the types of activities that will be fun for your group, and ensure you’re getting input from the parents.

You may also benefit from contacting your employees to see if anyone wants to volunteer to help. Whether it’s running errands to get materials or coming up with activities, it’ll be nice to have additional help when planning and executing the event.

2. Make a Schedule

If you don’t create an organized schedule, this day will likely end up being chaotic and stressful. To avoid this, send employees a detailed agenda for the day, including what time any meals will be served, and when games or other activities will be held. You might not want to make this an all-day event, so if it ends at a certain time, make sure to give your employees fair warning so that they can plan accordingly.

3. Child-Proof Your Business

It’s pivotal that you remember to make your workplace safe for when your employees’ kids visit. Of course, this will largely depend on your business’s industry. Some industries might have dangerous equipment or hazards around, while others won’t. In addition, it might be necessary to check-in with parents to see if any child has an allergy or other health issue that could be aggravated while visiting your business location.

Regardless, make sure that you take the necessary precautions to keep the kids safe.

4. Don’t Inconvenience Your Staff or Customers

Even though Take Your Child to Work Day can be fun for parents and their kids, you can’t forget about your other employees, or your customers. You should still try to make it a productive day, and ensure that your patrons are being assisted. To do this, try to keep the kids in a designated area, so that they aren’t distracting your employees who are hard at work. In addition, you should ensure that even if you ask for volunteers to assist with the event, you’ll still need enough staff members to be tending to the needs of each department. Again, organization is key!
