With the holiday season upon us, don’t run to big name department stores for Black Friday shopping. Instead, celebrate Thanksgiving by participating in your community’s Small Business Saturday events!
Thanksgiving is a time for appreciation, spending time with family, and enjoying delicious food. While most people are racing to the airport, supermarket, or the mall, they forget to take time out to give thanks. This Saturday, November 30th we ask that everyone show thanks to their communities by shopping small in commemoration of Small Business Saturday.
This year marks the third annual Small Business Saturday, a nationwide event which encourages consumers to shop at their locally owned, independent businesses. Between Black Friday and Cyber Monday it is easy for these small businesses to be overlooked in holiday shopping. We would like to encourage community members to support their locally owned businesses and get out this Saturday.
Even though we encourage everyone to get out and shop small this Saturday, we think that this holiday should be celebrated all year long. For every dollar that is spent at a locally owned business returns four times more to the local economy than that of a national chain retailer (www.standard.net). So let’s keep our towns thriving this holiday season, and be thankful for the locally owned small businesses in our community!
